Learning new things helps to fill the void

By Nick, Amy, Alexis, and Natalie Vossen

This is not the first time the Vossen family has had to have social distancing. When Alexis was diagnosed with cancer over three years ago, we had no choice but to have social distancing from family and friends as we did not want her to get sick. But truly, it was not as bad as now.

We would say this is a little different because we all can’t do anything, and it affects us all. With all the craziness we all are going through, you just have to have a little faith and hope that you will get through it.

The Vossens have been treating the first week like a little vacation from school. We have been doing a lot of activities, such as walking up and down our driveway, and taking pictures (at the end of our driveway, by the creek, on trees, in the woods). As some of you may know, the Vossen girls love to bake, so we have been baking sweet treats every-other day! We have been creative in drawing and making crafts. We have learned to use a jigsaw and a sander. Nick has been teaching the girls how to be carpenters by letting them help him build the deck onto the house.

All of us went out to clean the wood duck houses, even mom. The girls have been dancing like there is no tomorrow. Natalie does so many cartwheels, she pats down the carpet. We have been talking to our family and friends on Facetime or calling on the phone.

The Vossen family has been watching movies and eating popcorn about every day. For the first time, the family had watched church online.

Our words of encouragement through this craziness? Take it one day at a time. Don’t worry about the next day, because truly we never know what will happen. Don’t worry, be happy. Most of all, try to enjoy life. Just because you can’t go out and do what you want does not mean you can’t have fun.
