Superintendent Update Week of Oct. 19

·

Good Day Kimball. Students are back to school for a full week of school this week. The fall sports are wrapping up. This week is last week of regular season volleyball. The playoffs for the girls start next week. If you have some spare time, get out and support them as they make their push to do well in section play. Just a reminder for any winter sport athletes to get going on their preparation for the start of their activity. That season starts Nov. 9. It will be here before we know it.

I know I have spent a lot of time the past few weeks discussing the many things that can benefit the community of Kimball as well as the surrounding communities of Fair Haven, South Haven, Marty, Kingston, and Maine Prairie if the bond passes. I want to thank all of the individuals who have expressed their support for this project as well as the local Kimball Chamber of Commerce. The decision to hold this election was not an easy one. The factors that the board and I have had to look at to determine what we need and don?Äôt need played a major part in bringing this vote to the communities. The idea of spending this amount of money for these projects is difficult when there are a lot of people trying to make ends meet. The decision to move forward with this came down to what can provide a better quality of life for anyone in the communities if they choose to use it. All aspects of the project provide something for both the student and the adult in the community.

The school district plays a vital role in the community by being able to have a plan in place that works with the present needs as well as what will be needed in the future.  It is important that the school hosts activities and plans for as many different events as possible to bring more revenue to the community to help support all involved from the local stores, to the farmers, and the city. By planning and having the facility to host more events, it would provide an opportunity for any community member to think outside the box when trying to grow. Right now, we are competing to bring some of the projected 17 percent growth in central Minnesota to the Kimball area. St. Cloud just had an article in their paper on Sunday that talked about how the arts program brought in more than $12 million to the local economy just last year. These are things that I work on with my staff and the board to determine what we can bring to our community to also generate more revenue for the local businesses and the city. We need to have something that sets us apart from the rest to draw that growth in our direction. That is why I believe that if the building bond passes, Kimball will be put on the map as a community that people will want to be a part of. If you get a chance to go on the school website, take a look at the pictures of what the new surface for the track will look like. It will be amazing.

Thank you for your support of the school district. Have a great weekend, enjoy Halloween week and GO CUBS!
