Parts of Minnesota saw some plowable snow Monday night into Tuesday. The heavier amounts fell across northern Minnesota into parts of Wisconsin where winter weather advisories were in effect.
Central and west central Minnesota escaped the heavier amounts of snow as the system tracked further to the north. There were reports of only some spotty light snow and some patchy freezing drizzle.
Once this system pushed out of the Upper Midwest, colder weather arrived on Tuesday as temperatures fell throughout the day. Highs were expected on Tuesday early on in the day in the 20s but by the afternoon they were expected to drop into the single digits across much of the region.
We will be chilly on Wednesday with highs in the single digits expected as Arctic high pressure returns. The good news is that the blast of cold air will only last for about 48 hours.
For Thursday, we will start to move out of the deepfreeze. We should return to the 20s on Thursday for daytime high temperatures, but by Friday and Saturday we should return to the 30s and 40s!
In case you were wondering if we were above average for temperatures in January, yes, we were! At St. Cloud, for example, the average high temperature for January was 24.5 degrees F. This was 3.1 degrees F above average.
Have an enjoyable midweek and upcoming weekend!
