A column by volunteers about the happenings at the Eden Valley Area Library

?ÄúThe most important asset of any library goes home at night.?Äù ~ Timothy Healy, New York Public Library.

We have changed the format of our column to feature programs and events taking place at the library along with reviews and other news. The people mentioned all contribute to the success of our library; we couldn?Äôt do what we do without their hard work.

Marilyn Peterson would like to remind you of library events taking place during Valley Daze. There will be a used book sale on Friday, June 23, and Saturday, June 24. We are open both days from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. for the book sale and Dilly Bar sale. Saturday morning come hungry. Stop by the Community Center to buy delicious baked goods from our bake sale tables and have a yummy caramel roll and coffee, too. We are airconditioned and would love to see everyone! Proceeds will be going to continue the great programs at our library. Like to contribute to the Bake Sale? Bring your baked goods marked with contact information to the library on Friday or Saturday.

Judy Thielen wanted to spread the word that the Summer Reading Program is about to begin. The Cat is out of the bag! Our over-all theme this summer is none other than Cat In The Hat! THIS IS A FREE PROGRAM OPEN TO THE PUBLIC for pre-school through age 12. Contact Judy at (320)
266-5515, or jjthielen@meltel.net, to register. We will be meeting two Wednesdays each month in the Eden Valley Community Center and in the library from 9:30-
11 a.m. Highlights include the LEAD group joining us to present a fun-filled Cat in the Hat session. It promises to be purrrrrfectly phenomenal! Kids can have their very own library card. Just stop by the library and fill out an application and you will have your card in minutes, NO CHARGE!

Judy also wanted to mention MOVIE NIGHT IN THE VALLEY! Yes, you can come to the Eden Valley Community Center and enjoy a free movie projected onto a 15?Äô by 18?Äô viewing area, in air-conditioned comfort, comfortable seating and free popcorn and beverage. We offer two movies each month on a Friday evening at 6 p.m. Next up, on June 9, is ?ÄúThe Shack,?Äù which takes us on a father?Äôs transformative and spiritual journey that will show him the ultimate truth about love, loss, and forgiveness. On June 30, we bring you ?ÄúA Dog?Äôs Purpose,?Äù which shares the soulful and surprising story of one devoted dog (voiced by Josh Gad) who finds the meaning of his own existence through the lives of the humans he teaches to laugh and love. Come on down and enjoy the show!

We turn to Sharon Simmons for recommendations concerning juvenile and young adult fiction. She loved ?ÄúThe Wolf Keepers,?Äù by Elise Broach. Follow 12-year-old Lizzie and her friend, Tyler, as they try to discover why the wolves are dying at the zoo that they call home. The action builds as they travel from the zoo to Yosemite National Park trying to solve the mystery of the wolves, as well as the historical legend of John Muir. This is a great, suspenseful mystery for junior readers. And then there?Äôs ?ÄúUnited As One,?Äù by Pittacus Lore. The seventh and final book in the Lorien Legacies is an action-packed science fiction book for young adult readers. In the battle for Earth, a group of brave teenagers bring this series to an amazing conclusion. Follow John and his friends as they try to save the planet from the Mogadorians, an alien race. Start with the first book, ?ÄúI Am Number Four,?Äù and read the whole series!

Ellen Ellickson wanted you to know that the EVAL Book Club will meet in September to plan the list of books for the year. Bring any suggestions you have, and we will post the list for all to read. Everyone is welcome to attend the book club, we meet the third Tuesday of the month at the library at 5:30 p.m. You can attend even if you haven?Äôt read the book,  you always learn something about the book or the author.
