Weather column: The state of Minnesota dealt with some severe weather on Tuesday as warm and moist air ahead of a cold-front brought showers and thunderstorms to the area. Large hail and strong winds were the main concern with these storms. The Storm Prediction Center issued their assessment on Monday for the possibility of severe weather for Tuesday afternoon into Tuesday night and lingering into Wednesday.
For Wednesday, there still will be the chance of severe weather across Minnesota, but it will shift further east. There will remain the threat of large hail and strong winds on Wednesday. Our active weather pattern will stay with us through the weekend at this stage as there will continue to be the chance of showers and thunderstorms through Sunday. Stay alert this spring for quickly changing weather developments and know where to go in case of severe weather. Don’t forget too, to protect your head with a bike helmet or a football helmet. This is new advice from the National Weather Service and yours truly.
Now that April is behind us, we find that April was about four degrees above average for temperatures. Precipitation amounts were slightly above average as St. Cloud, for example, had 2.60″ of rain for the month. That was about.13″ above normal for that location. It looks like our above-normal temperatures will continue for the start of May.
