At about 1 p.m. Thursday, July 1, the Stearns County Sheriff’s Office Communications Center received a 911 call about a single-vehicle crash on County Road 9 and 260th Street in Munson Township. The reporting party stated that there was a vehicle which had gone off County Road 9 and struck a utility pole.
The vehicle, a 2004 Pontiac Grand Am, was driven by Kailey James 16, of Richmond. James appeared to be traveling northbound on County Road 9 when the road curved left but the vehicle proceeded off the right side of the roadway. James was the sole occupant of the vehicle, and she was pronounced deceased on the scene.
The Cold Spring Police Department, Chain of Lakes Fire and Rescue, Mayo Ambulance, Minnesota State Patrol, and the Stearns County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene.
The crash remains under investigation.
