Came to Kimball in 1900; had practiced at Dassel for half dozen years

George E. Sherwood, M.D., physician and man of affairs, living at Kimball, was born in St. Paul Feb. 14, 1872, son of George W. and Adeline (Hard) Sherwood. Subsequent to passing through the grad and high schools of St. Paul, he entered the University of Minnesota, took one year in the academic department, and then registered in the medical department from which he graduated in 1894.
After the usual practice as an intern at St. Joseph’s Hospital in St. Paul, he opened an office at Dassel, where he remained six years. He became a prominent man and elected president of the village council, a position corresponding to that of mayor in the larger cities.
Since 1900 he has lived in Kimball where he has built up a large and successful practice. He is President of the Stearns-Benton County Medical Society, and a member of the Crow River Valley Medical Society and the American and Minnesota Medical Associations. In business life, Dr. Sherwood is President of the State Bank of Kimball, and Vice President of the Reed & Sherwood Mfg. Co. of Anoka. In politics as in temperament, he is progressive, and his work is ever toward the general uplift of whatever community he makes his home. Some of his best work has been done as director of the school board for some six years. Fraternally, Dr. Sherwood has been active. He is a past master of Plumb Line Lodge No. 173 A.F. and A.M., Kimball, and a member of St. Cloud Chapter #16 R.A.M. of St. Cloud. He is also affiliated with the Modern Woodmen of America, the Ancient Order of United Workmen and the Court of Honor, while he and his wife are members of the Eastern Star and of the Royal Neighbors.
Dr. Sherwood was married Jan. 12, 1898, to Mary E. Milton of Howard Lake, and they have four children: Milton (deceased), Helen, Ruth and Jane. The family faith is that of the Christian church.
Dr. Sherwood thinks our Federal Constitution has many valuable amendments, but that the outstanding one is the 18th, which he would like to see observed and enforced. [The 18th Amendment, in force from 1919 to 1933, was better known as “Prohibition.”
Dr. Sherwood is one of Stearns County’s most valuable citizens, and enjoys the confidence and esteem of everyone who knows him. He may well be called “The good family doctor.”
