Alice Leppa, 87

Alice Leppa of Dassel, formerly of Kingston, died Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2003, at her home. She was 87. A funeral service took place at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 8, at the Gethsemane Lutheran Church in Dassel with Rev. Raymond Haugland officiating.   Interment followed at the Apostolic Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation was from 5-8 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 7, at the Johnson Funeral Home in Dassel and one hour prior to the service Monday at the church. Alice Serina Saimons was born Oct. 5, 1915, to Ole and Serina (Sjaeveland) Saimons in Tagus, N.D. After the death of her parents, Alice moved to Valley City, N.D., at age 3. In the fourth grade, she moved to Kingston and lived with her sister Inez Anderson. In the eighth grade, she returned to Valley City, N.D., where she graduated high school in 1934. Alice moved back to Kingston after graduation. In 1935, Alice married Edwin Hjalmer Mansicka in Kingston. They made their home in Kingston, and they had four children. Edwin died in 1947. In 1952, Alice married Walter “Pete” Leppa at the Oscar Wilson home in Kingston. They lived in Kingston until retirement, when they wintered in Arizona for 12 years. They loved to go camping and fishing in northern Minnesota, and traveled throughout the United States. Walter died in 1994. Alice had a special relationship with each of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed the times that she could get together with friends to play cards and games. Alice loved to challenge her mind with crossword puzzles and reading. She will be dearly missed by family and friends. Alice was preceded in death by her parents and foster parents; husbands Edwin Mansicka and Walter Leppa; brothers Stephen and Ingwald Saimons; and sisters Inez Anderson and Olga Saimons. She is survived by her children: Gary (and Lucy) Mansicka of Kingston, Joan (and Warren) Nelson of Dassel, Beverly (and Lowell) Lykken of Westlake Village, Calif., and Judy Fundingsland of Minneapolis; 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
