The Kimball School Board held their April 15, 2020, regular meeting beginning at 6:00 p.m. with member Schreiner present in the board room, and members Becker, Davis, Helgeson, and Waldorf present remotely.
The board approved the consent agenda consisting of approval of the March 18 minutes, approval of bills, and treasurer’s and quarterly reports. They also rescinded hiring Antony Fink, Tech Ed, for 20-21, accepted resignations from Joanna Lentner and Chris Dahlinger, and accepted donations.
High school principal report included information on distance learning, virtual staff meetings, family survey send out, and graduation is still set for Thursday, May 21. Kimball and EV-W have been awarded a $50,000 LYFT grant. Youth Apprenticeship has been successful this first year.
The elementary principal report included staff doing a great job connecting with students, working on attendance for students not participating, para staff working with students through Google Meets and Zoom. KES will be using pass/incomplete for 4th quarter reporting. Working to fill the kindergarten position, and participating in a number of virtual discussions with other principals. Kimball is right on track with what other districts are doing.
Mr. Widvey reported he is very proud of the effort and professionalism exhibited by staff. He is working to fill the AD/Phy-Ed/football coaching vacancy. The proposed bond issue is being tabled until further notice. Thank you to food service and child care staff for all they are doing for kids and families during this time. Thank you to the IT techs, Barb and Shelly, for keeping distance learning going on the technology side. And, thank you the Hendricks Bus for their assistance in delivering meals to families.
Action was taken approving the Deep Portage and Iron Range field trips for May 2021, extended contract days for Jay Klein (Guidance) and Michaela Gallup (FFA). Two probationary teachers were not renewed for 20-21, and a leave of absence for a paraprofessional was approved.
