Basilius “Basil” Quast of Watkins died Sunday, June 26, 2005, at the Hilltop Care Center in Watkins. He was 92. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 30, at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Watkins with interment in the parish cemetery. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday and from 8 a.m. until time of service Thursday at the church. Watkins Senior Citizens will pray the rosary at 4 p.m. Wednesday at the church. Basil Quast was born June 14, 1913, in Watkins to Joseph and Bertha (Otto) Quast. He married Margaret Willeke April 16, 1942, in St. Joseph; she preceded him in death in 2001. They farmed in Watkins until their retirement in 1979. Basil was also self-employed as a carpenter. He was a member of the St. Anthony Catholic Church in Watkins and the Watkins Senior Citizens. He enjoyed playing cards and woodworking. Basil was preceded in death by his wife Margaret; daughter Judy; brothers Anthony, Sylvester, Lee and Alex Quast, and sister Minnie Knisley. He is survived by his children Robert (and Jane) Quast of St. Peters, Mo., Gerald (and Brenda) Quast of Fort Worth, Texas, Richard (and Sharon Albrecht) Quast of Minneapolis, Barbara (and Roger) Quast-Johnson of Clear Lake, Ronald (and Renee) Quast of York, Neb., Margaret (and Robert) Atkinson of Massillon, Ohio; 13 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law Bertha Quast and Armella Quast of Watkins. Arrangements were by Ertl Funeral Home of Watkins.
