Here?Äôs what?Äôs happening at the Eden Valley Area Library

The EVAL Library Board will be meeting at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 9, in the library. The public is more than welcome. We would love the company, and it would give you a chance to see how we?Äôre doing.

Ellen Ellickson wants to remind you that the EVAL Book Club meets the third Tuesday of the month at 5:30 p.m. in the library. On Tuesday, Dec. 19, the book up for discussion is The Chilbury Ladies?Äô Choir by Jennifer Ryan. Martha Hall Kelly, author of Lilac Girls, calls it ?Äúa charming slice of English wartime life that warms the soul like a hot toddy.?Äù Perfect read for a cold winter?Äôs evening.

1,000 Books Before Kindergarten is well on the way thanks to Sandy Millerbernd, Sharon Simmons and Margi Schreifels. Marilyn Peterson is in on the action, providing 15 daycare facilities with books from the library and sign-up information. Also involved are Eagles Kids and several children including a 3-week old baby. Stop in to the library, email evlibrary@arvig.net, or call 453-4434 for more information. And please read to your children.

Sandy would like to point out the benefits of listening to audio books. Students can increase their vocabulary as well as learn to read above their grade level while listening to engaging stories. And adults can hone their attention skills. Listen while you?Äôre doing that ever-loving housework, while driving or just relaxing. Nancy McNab has been known to sit in her car in her driveway waiting to finish a chapter. Try one out. If it isn?Äôt for you, return it to the library and check out another. There?Äôs no purchase necessary. All you need is a library card.

Your library also has a Kindle to check out with 50+ books to choose from. Light weight and great for holiday traveling! If you haven?Äôt ever read an e-book, now is the time.

Sharon Simmons wants to highlight diversity. That?Äôs the art of thinking independently together. Come to the library and check out our displays on diversity. There are many books for adults and children on this important topic for our times.

One of her favorite books, ?ÄúWonder,?Äù celebrates our differences and likenesses, and is now a hit movie. According to the main character, Auggie Pullman, we are all wonders. One of the main precepts of the book is: ?ÄúWhen given the choice between being right or being kind, choose kind.?Äù ~ Dr. Wayne W. Dyer.

Finally, the lucky winners from our Open House drawings were Hannah Larson, Ellen Ellickson, Shane Bartels, Cierra Ramsey, Kaitlyn Mathies, Shannon Larson, Tina Andreotti, Reiner Bradshaw, Mary Hukriede, Donna Rech, Mindy Blommer and Jim Schutz. Any spelling errors are on me!

And that?Äôs it for this month.
