Cub season has bright spots but no wins yet

Cubs play in Christmas Tourney at Lester Prairie On Monday, Dec. 27, the Cubs played the Lester Prairie Bulldogs and lost by a score of 70-56. Even though the Cubs had one of their better shooting nights, 21 of 53 for 40 percent, the Bulldogs were sizzling shooting 29of 56 for 52 percent. The Cubs did control the boards in a 27-19 edge but turned the ball over too many times 23-18. The Cubs played hard, but too many mental mistakes and less-than-great-defense hurt them. Leading the Cubs in scoring were Devin Rosenow with 11 points, Jeff Hunt eight points and Robbie Massmann seven points. Dustin Wills led on the boards with five rebounds. Jeff Hunt had seven assists and three steals.  Cubs lose to Belle Plain On Tuesday, Dec. 28, the Cubs lost to a hot-shooting Belle Plain at the Lester Prairie Holiday Tournament, 79-41. The Cubs stayed close the first quarter, only trailing 18-14. However, in the second quarter the Cubs were outscored 27-4 and never could catch up. The Cubs played better in the second half, but could not overcome the Tigers’ shooting of 29 of 68 or 43 percent. The Cubs could only shoot 13 of 46 for 28 percent from the field. The Tigers shot 14 for 17 or 74 percent from the line as the Cubs shot 9 for 15 or 60 percent from the line. The Cubs got destroyed on the boards, 39-20, but the turnovers were close, 17-14. Leading the Cubs were Jeff Hunt at 13 points, Aaron Rossman 11 points and Dustin Wills with eight points. Wills also had seven rebounds and Devin Rosenow had five rebounds,. Jeff Hunt had three assists and five steals.   Huskies take a bite out of Cubs Tuesday, Jan. 4, found the Cubs playing the Albany Huskies at Albany. The Huskies beat the Cubs, 57-36. The Cubs played the taller Huskies tough the first half only trailing by a score of 30-25. However, the second half, was tough; the Huskies out-scored the Cubs 27 to 11. The problem again was on the offensive boards where the Cubs were over-matched in a 18 to 7 ratio. Leading the Cubs in scoring were Devin Rosenow with eight points and Aaron Rossman with seven points. Derek Kunkel had six rebounds and Dustin Wills had five. Matt Dingmann had two assists and two steals.  Cubs lose close one to Holdingford Huskies On Thursday, Jan. 6, the Holdingford Huskies came to the Cubs’ den and, in a tough defensive battle, the H  uskies defeated the Cubs, 38-28.  Even though the Cubs kept the Huskies to only 34 percent (17 of 50) from the field, the Cubs could only shoot 27 percent from the field. The Cubs kept it close all the way to the end, but could never get it below a three-point differential. Leading the Cubs was Devin Rosenow with 14 points. Dustin Wills had nine rebounds and Jeff Hunt had nine assists.
