Cubs eighth-grade baseball splits double dip with EV-W

The Cubs traveled to Eden Valley to take on the Eagles last Tuesday. Both teams went scoreless in the first two innings behind good defense and great pitching. In the third, Kimball struck for three runs on hits by Teagan VanNurden, Cooper Faber and Chase Winter. Winter notched two RBI with a double and Nolan Petersen knocked in the third run with a ground out. Petersen finished the game strong with two more scoreless innings to get the victory in a 3-0 shutout.

In the batter’s box the Cubs collected three runs on three hits. They were walked four times. Kimball had four steals, led by VanNurden with two. On the hill, Petersen pitched four dominant innings. He allowed two base-runners on a hit. Nolan struck out nine and did not allow a walk.

In the nightcap, the Cubs were on the losing end of a 4-0 score. VanNurden received the nod in game two. He pitched two innings and gave up four unearned runs. Teagan struck out four, walked two and hit one batter. Kadon Pauls pitched an inning of relief. He gave up a walk and struck out three.

The Cubs had two hits in the contest, one each by Keagan Inglett and Teagan VanNurden. They also walked twice in the game. VanNurden had two of the three Kimball stolen bases. Kimball is now 4-1 on the season.
