Della “Dottie” Carle of Callaway, Neb., died on Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2002, at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island, Neb. She was 65 years old.
Funeral services were held on Monday, Dec. 9, at the Callaway United Methodist Church with Rev. Gerald Schwarz officiating. Burial was in the Sand Valley Cemetery near Callaway.
Della was born Aug. 15, 1937, to Jesse and Hazel “Della” (Myers) Cudaback in Broken Bow, Neb. She grew up in Callaway and graduated from Callaway High School. At the age of 14 she started work at Mrs. Ryan’s Cafe in Callaway. While working for Mrs. Ryan she learned to play the accordion and with Mrs. Ryan’s help, purchased one of her own. On Sept. 29, 1973, she married John “Jack” Carle in Callaway. Throughout her life, Dottie worked for many different department stores in different areas, but Callaway was always home, no matter where she lived. Dottie was a member of the United Methodist Church in Callaway for more than 50 years and was a member of the women’s circle at the church. She was involved in every place she worked and was a very social person. She also enjoyed crocheting, crafts, quilting and plastic canvas crafts. She will be greatly missed for her love of a good joke, whether she was telling it or learning a new one.
Della is survived by two sons: Forest (and Monica) Linn, and Monte (and Kim) Linn, both of Broken Bow, Neb.; three daughters: Liz (and Ivan) Phelps of Callaway, Carla (and Wesley) Minnema of North Platte, Neb., and Carol Ross of Broken Bow, Neb.; stepson John (and Kerry) Carle of Crawford, Neb.; three brothers: Roger (and Sandy) Cudaback of Arizona, Bill (and Pat) Cudaback of Ogallala, and Ted (and Teri) Cudaback of Omaha, Neb.; two sisters: Laura (and Chet) Gascho of Cairo, Neb., and Linda (and Cliff) Baird of Callaway; sister-in-law Carol Tenney of Kimball; adopted family Ann Hartsock and daughter Beth of Indiana; 18 grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
