Top-seed Eden Valley-Watkins fell just short of a state tournament berth, after losing to Melrose, 50-42, Friday, March 6, in the Section 6AA finals at Halenbeck Hall, St. Cloud State University. Jared Streit finished with 14 points and 12 rebounds for EV-W and Austin Schlangen added 12 points in the effort. A couple of turnovers and missed free throws late by the Eagles helped the Dutchmen secure the victory and their first state tournament reservation since 1974. Eagles Scoring: sophomore guard Jacob Streit, 6; sophomore guard Reese Jansen, 4; senior guard Bret Mattice, 6; senior forward Austin Schlangen, 12; senior forward Jared Streit, 14.
Bret Mattice drains a three, but it would not be enough as the Eagles?Äô season was ended by Melrose Friday, March 6, at SCSU. This was a record-setting season for the EV-W boys, and Section finals is the furthest they?Äôve ever gone in tournament play. Congratulations, Eagles! Staff photos by Marguerite Laabs.
EV-W Activities Director Dave Schneider presented the team trophy to the captains after the Eagles?Äô tournament run was ended at the March 6 game.
