The Eden Valley-Watkins-Kimball (EV-W-K) track team proved that hard work pays off. With the weather finally cooperating, the team racked up 23 personal bests for the day, broke three school records, and had four athletes earn All-Conference. Kimball’s Alison Ecker broke her own record in the shot put, launching the shot 38 feet, 3.3 inches, earning a gold medal. Ecker also holds the discus record with a 107-foot, 4.5-inch throw from earlier this season. Eden Valley-Watkins’ Jennifer Becker broke the 300-meter hurdle record with a winning time of 47.2 seconds. This time topples a record that was set by Deb Schutz in 1985. Jennifer broke the three-year-old triple jump record earlier this season, with a leap of 34 feet, 6 inches. The 4×200 boys’ relay team of Luke Deutsch, Nathan Schoenecker, Sean Topp and Adam Tri placed second in the conference meet, and broke the school record with a time of 1:36.6 This topped the 1:37.6 record set in 2001. Four team members earned All-Conference status: Ecker in the shot put and discus, Bobby Weekes in the shot put, Kendra Nelson in the long jump, and Jennifer Becker in the 300-meter hurdles, 100-meter hurdles and triple jump. The girls’ team took fourth overall, and the boys’ team took sixth overall at the meet. The team ends the season with a sub-section meet in Annandale Wednesday, May 26. Jennifer Becker took second in the 100-meter hurdles, fourth in the 1,600-meter, first in the 300-meter hurdles and second in the triple jump. Kendra Nelson, Stephanie Roos, Brandi Schiefelbein and Danielle Babbitt took fourth place in the 4×200 relay, and took third in the 4×100 relay. Jennifer Hilsgen took fifth in the 1,600-meter and fourth in the 800-meter. Justine Hilsgen took eighth in the 1,600-meter. Alison Ecker took second in discus and first in shot put.
