The Kimball Cubs fourth-grade boys went to Litchfield and competed in an eight-team tournament on March 15. The team had two goals in mind prior to traveling to Litchfield. The first goal was for the boys to have fun playing the game. The second goal for the young Cubs was to learn as much about the game of absketball as they could in their three games. The teams enjoyed a lot of success in the tournament by winning two of the three games they played, placing third in the tournament. Kimball controlled most of the first game they played against Atwater/Grove City In the second game the boys were sluggish and lost to a good Dassel-Cokato team. The game for third-place was very exciting and had the crowd on their feet. Kimball was behind St. Phillips 20-9 going into the last quarter. The boys came out firing and scored 16 points in the last quarter to win 25-22. This was the second tournament that this young team played during the season. Earlier in the year they competed in the Eden Valley tournament and finished with one win and two losses. Members of the team were Tyler Filzen, Neil Helgeson, Michael Helgerson, Jamie Kurkowski, Taylor Kuseske, Tyler Loch, Matt Massmann, Dillon Menson, Brett Ostby and Alek Young. Submitted by Todd Ostby Last week we erroneously reported that the fourth-grade boys’ basketball took fourth place in this tournament when they actually took THIRD. We apologize.
