Weather: The heat was the big story Monday across Minnesota with heat indices in the 100- to 110-degree range. As a result, a heat advisory was posted for most of Minnesota. The Twin Cities metro was under an excessive heat warning for Monday into early Tuesday because of very oppressive heat.
Temperatures climbed into the low- to mid-90s with dew points in the lower 70s Monday afternoon across Central and West Central Minnesota. Parts of Western Minnesota even saw dew points in the lower 80s
All of this heat and humidity gave just the right ingredients for severe weather across parts of Minnesota Monday night.
The Storm Prediction Center had parts of Central and Northern Minnesota in an elevated category for severe weather for Monday night. The main threat was for straight-line winds of 60 to 80 mph and the possibility for tornadoes as well.
Drier and more comfortable weather returned by Tuesday as high pressure returned to the Upper Midwest. Daytime high temperatures will be back to more ?Äúnormal?Äù readings for this time of the year for the midweek.
At this stage, the weekend should be typical for this time of the year with highs in the lower 80s Saturday. We could see some spotty showers late Saturday into Sunday.
