Have you wanted to help Ukrainians who have been displaced by the war inflicted on them by Russia, but didn’t know where to start?
Kimball United Methodist Church is working through their international rescue organization, UMCOR, to provide assistance to Ukrainians who remain in Ukraine as well as those who have fled to surrounding countries taking in refugees, aid for Ukrainians who may well be homeless for years after so many residential areas – sometimes entire towns and villages – have been utterly destroyed by Russian bombs and missiles.
UMCOR, the United Methodist Committee on Relief, has been helping where needed in the world since 1948. 100% of all donations to UMCOR go directly to aid, as the costs of administrating the organization are provided by Methodist churches. UMCOR issues grants to both United Methodist partners and others like ACT Alliance, International Orthodox Christian Charities (IOCC), and Human Rights League. “These grants are providing transportation assistance, humanitarian supplies such as food, water, clothing, shelter and medication, as well as legal services and safe spaces for women, children and those with disabilities,” according to the UMCOR website.
Online donations are being accepted at https://umcmission.org/advance-project/982450.
But there are two local options as well. One is to bring a check to the Kimball United Methodist Church during office hours, or mail to KUMC, PO Box 414, Kimball MN 55353. Another is to drop off a check at Harvest Bank in Kimball, or mail it to the bank at PO Box 70, Kimball MN 55353. All checks should be made out to Kimball UMC, and should have “for Ukraine” marked in the memo. Cash donations should be in an envelope marked Kimball UMC for Ukraine. The church will acknowledge all gifts for tax purposes, and anonymous donations are also welcome.
All funds will be sent to UMCOR to be put to use directly aiding Ukrainian refugees and displaced persons.
The horrific war being perpetrated on Ukraine by Putin’s Russia – now under the general known as the “Butcher of Syria” – is nowhere near an end, and is likely to get dramatically worse. UMCOR and other agencies are in-country helping people directly with their immediate needs.
