Kimball girls’ basketball

·

The Kimball girls’ basketball team traveled to Holdingford for a conference game on Tuesday Jan 9. We had two goals for the game: we wanted to stay out of foul trouble and shoot the ball better. We were able to accomplish one, but struggled with the other.  We only committed 18 fouls in the game, which is a huge change for us; we have been averaging 23 a game. Shooting was not as successful though. we went nine for 55 from the floor. We had 55 quality shots, but only making nine will not win you many games. I am pleased with our shot selection, we just have to get a few of those layups and baskets in the lane to fall down. Felica Mensen pulled down eight rebounds; Brittnay Simmons had seven; and Brianna Rosenow and Mindy Hurrle each had six boards. Parents’ Night Kimball girls’ basketball team held its Parents’ Night Friday, Jan. 12. They hosted Maple Lake, which was coming off of a big win against Peirz two nights earlier. The stands were full, and the girls gave them a good game. Maple Lake shot 75 percent from the floor; it seemed as if who ever shot the ball for Maple Lake it would go in. Kimball had a lot of very good shots, we just couldn’t get any to fall down. The post play for Maple Lake was very good and they hit their shots from the outside. Our post play is really starting to develop and a few missed lay-ups go in this game is a lot closer. Defensively, the girls played strong. We have played two good games on the defensive end back-to-back and are starting to limit our fouls. We just got to make teams pay for putting us at the line and make our free throws. Kimball, as a team, had 12 steals. Kimball was led in scoring by Brittnay Simmons with 11, Felicia Menson with 10 and Mindy Hurrle’s seven. Brianna Rosenow grabbed six rebounds and Kayla Kastanek added five boards off of the bench. Amanda Kuseske and Felicia Menson each pulled down four, as well. Kimball (2-9) overall will travel to play Rockford on Thursday, Jan 18. Rockford will be a tough game; they have had some big wins in the conference this year. The girls just have to keep playing hard, and we will steal a conference game from a few teams this year. A big “thank you” to all the parents from 7th-graders and up of my players and managers; the girls really appreciate the support, and so do my coaches and I.
