Some light snow and even some patchy freezing drizzle were found across the area Sunday night into Monday. Most of the area saw light snowfall amounts, but parts of southern Minnesota into Wisconsin picked up one to three inches of snow. A winter weather advisory was posted for that part of the region.
On the backside of this system we will experience another Arctic blast. Like the one last week, it will be short lived and thankfully it shouldn’t be quite as intense.
High temperatures will struggle to make it much above zero on Wednesday. Overnight lows will be from 10 below to 20 below.
We will start to warm up a bit on Thursday as temperatures are expected to reach into the teens for daytime highs.
By Friday and into the weekend we should see lots of sunshine with temperatures soaring into the low- to mid-30s. Hopefully, the computer models will hold true and we will see this nice warm-up across the state.
Have a great midweek and stay warm.
Weather history: On this date in 1928 records show that a “dust storm moved across Minnesota.” It caused “lights to be turned on in the daytime in the Twin Cities!”
Weather facts: Did you know that the Dust Bowl was exacerbated by previous farming techniques? These techniques stripped the land of its deep-rooted grasses. In addition, the tilling methods loosened and kicked up large quanities of soil. The lack of rain also created a disaster in a time when people were already going through economic hardships.
