The Meeker and Meeker/Kandiyohi County 4-H senior and junior dairy project bowl teams had strong showings at the state contest held in Sauk Rapids Saturday, April 11.
In the senior division, the Meeker County senior team went undefeated on their way to the state championship. They defeated the Carver County team on their way to victory. The Meeker/Kandiyohi senior team came in a close third, losing to the Carver County team by only five points in the semifinal match. The winning Meeker County team will be traveling to Louisville, Ky., to compete in the national contest in November.
In the junior division the Meeker/Kandiyohi team also showed their strength by going undefeated to win the state. They beat Watonwan County in the finals.
The project bowl competition is designed to test the participants?Äô knowledge in all facets of the dairy industry. The participants spend many hours studying periodicals and other resources getting ready for the contest.
Senior Meeker Team members include: James Gathje, Katherine Gathje, Sawyer Eblen, and Shelby Kuechle.
Senior Meeker/Kandiyohi Team members include: Wyatt Renne, Elliott Gratz (Kandiyohi), Dillon Gratz (Kandiyohi), and Morgan Paulson (Kandiyohi).
Junior Team members include: Daniel Williamson, Gregory Gathje, Jonathan Gathje, and Wilson Gratz (Kandiyohi).
