Schultz earns two more World Cup podiums this week in Colorado

After earning three podium spots on the Europe circuit, “Monster” Mike Schultz returns to the first Para Snowboard World Cup in the U.S. since 2018, and he finishes first and third. Athletes wearing his prosthetic equipment also made the podium.

For the first time in seven years, the FIS Para Snowboard World Cup series added a stop in the U.S. where Minnesota’s Mike Schultz brought home two podium finishes and a third-place ranking for overall combined points for boardercross and banked slalom. Following the two days of World Cup competitions, Schultz raced in the National Championships where he finished second.

“It’s been too long since I’ve taken the number-one spot, so this one feels incredible,” Schultz said about his results. “This one was special as my family was here to experience it and haven’t seen me race since 2018. I’m looking to focus on the World Championships next in Canada which carries a lot of weight for us as we lead into the Paralympics in Italy next year.”

In addition to being a member of the U.S. Para Snowboard team, Schultz is also -responsible for engineering and producing the prosthetic equipment his teammates wear. Approximately 30 out of 42 athletes on the World Cup circuit right now in the men’s and women’s lower limb classes (LL1 and LL2) use Schultz’s prosthetics, though not all of the 42 athletes are amputees. Every lower-limb amputee on the U.S. Para Snowboard Team uses BioDapt gear including fellow U.S. teammate Noah Elliott, Schultz’s direct competitor in the SB-LL1 class, who finished second in both races this week.

If Schultz is named to the 2026 Milan Paralympics, this will be his third Games, and he will be the oldest U.S. para snowboarder to do so.

About Mike Schultz

Mike Schultz is a two-time Paralympic medalist with a gold and two silvers in snowboarding, and a 10-time X Games gold medalist in three different sports. In 2008, Mike suffered a life-changing injury during a snowmobile competition resulting in the amputation of his left leg above the knee. Seven months later, Mike was competing again on a prosthetic leg and foot (“Moto Knee” and “Versa Foot”) that he engineered realizing that regular prosthetics couldn’t handle the rigors of his sports. Mike founded his company BioDapt in 2010 to help wounded soldiers, athletes, and amputees get back into the sports they love. In 2018, Mike was named to the U.S. Paralympic snowboard team, won a gold and silver, provided 15 athletes from six different countries with his prosthetic equipment, was the flag bearer for the opening ceremonies, and won the ESPY that year for Best Male Athlete with a Disability. Mike was thinking of hanging up the Paralympic snowboard, but decided to compete in the 2022 Beijing Paralympics – the same year his book “Driven to Ride” was published – and came home with another silver.
