South Haven obtains two parcels for parking

The South Haven City Council met Tuesday, Aug. 5. No residents attended the meeting.

The city has received the deeds for two parcels of tax-forfeited vacant lots that will be used for off-street parking lot for the city.

Wright County Commissioner Chris Husom attended the meeting to update the council on what the county commissioners are working on. Commissioner meetings now are live-streamed on the county?Äôs website.

South Haven Days were reported to have an excellent turnout with no major issues.

There were six rescue and four fire calls for the South Haven Fire & Rescue Department.

Updates continue to be made on the new Community City Hall building, and an appreciation plaque listing donors has been installed in the hall lobby.

There are dead trees in the city park that need to be inspected for ash borer and dealt with appropriately.

The city?Äôs irrigator was clogged but it has been repaired and is working. The water tower light has been replaced. The tower will next be cleaned and inspected in 2015.

The county approved a Conditional Use Permit for a 250-foot cellular antenna tower with unmanned ground-level telecommunications shelter. A building permit is required, and construction must commence within six months or the CUP is void.
The city has not heard further from SAC Wireless for AT&T (who want to build the tower on city land).

Four building permits were issued in July, with one being cancelled by the property owner.

The 2014 certified Local Government Aid (LGA) is $34,496 for the City of South Haven; it is set at $34,719 for 2015. The 2015 budget and preliminary levy will be discussed at the 7 p.m. meeting Tuesday, Sept. 2, which is open to the public.

The city received a donation from the South Haven Fire Relief Gambling that was transferred to the South Haven Days Committee.
