Along with Fair Haven Old Settlers Days, Fair Haven celebrated its sesquicentennial (150th anniversary) on June 24, 2006. The picnic in the park was well attended. Picnic-goers enjoyed food stands, games, historical displays, people being tossed in the ?Äújust for fun jail,?Äù visiting with friends and, of course, reminiscing of by-gone days.

Fire destroys the home, workshop, and motorhome of Dale and Lila Cates of Kingston on Friday, June 14, 1996. Despite efforts by three fire departments, the blaze persisted for hours, until dawn broke over the historic riverside farmstead. Yet the Cates?Äô are grateful that they still have each other. ?ÄúWe?Äôre blessed by God that we got out alive ?Äì it was that close,?Äù said Lila.

Ground breaking ceremonies for the construction of the new Gohmann?Äôs Red Owl store were held Tuesday morning. The new building will be over three times the size of their present quarters. Very up-to-date display facilities and other features are to be installed.

The Kingston community celebrated another Bicentennial event on Sunday, June 27, as between 300-400 people gathered at the Finnish Memorial Park to enjoy an afternoon of visiting and taking part in the dedication program and Finnish Memorial unveiling. There were several events commemorating the dedication.
