The Minnesota High School Football Coaches Association will hold its 44th Annual Hall of Fame banquet Saturday evening, March 29, at the Double Tree Hotel in Minneapolis at 1500 Park Place Boulevard. Social hour is from 5-6 p.m., followed by dinner at 6 p.m. Six outstanding individuals, including one from Kimball, have been selected to enter the “Hall of Fame” for their dedication and contributions to high school football in Minnesota. The inductees are: • High School Division: Gary Trimble, Kimball; Del Elston, Harmony; Ron stolski, Brainerd; and Mario Lucia, Bigfork/Grand Rapids. • College Division: Jim Sims, U of M Crookston. Gary Trimble graduated from Walker/Hackensack High School in Walker in 1966. While in high school, Gary lettered 10 times – four times in baseball and three times each in football and basketball. After high school, Gary went to Bemidji State College where he earned a B.S. degree in Physical Education. Gary later went on to Augsburg and earned a health degree. While at Bemidji, Gary earned two letters in baseball before a knee injury kept him out of baseball, as well as football. After college, Gary’s first teaching and coaching job came at Fairmount, N.D., in 1971. He taught physical education and biology for six years. He was an assistant basketball and head track coach while at Fairmount as well as the head football coach for six seasons. After taking a struggling Fairmount program who hadn’t won a game in five seasons, he amassed a 40-16 record in his six years with one conference championship. Gary then moved to Kimball in the fall of 1977. Gary still teaches physical education and health. He was a junior high basketball coach for 18 years and a junior high baseball coach for 15 seasons. He was the head football coach for 19 seasons from 1977-1995. When Gary became head football coach at Kimball they had won 14 games in the past 20 years. As the head coach, he took the Kimble Cubs to four state tournament appearances and three conference championships. Gary’s record at Kimball was 111-77. Gary’s overall record is 151-93. He was twice named Central Minnesota Coach of the Year, in 1983 and 1986. He is also a member of the Kimball Hall of Fame. After retiring from football, Gary spent his time hunting and fishing. He has been a fishing guide on Leech Lake for the past 35 years. He has traveled to the Caribbean, Belize, and New Zealand. He also manages the Kimball Country Club. He has been a member of the football coaches association since 1977. Gary’s family includes his wife Peggy and daughters Stefinie, 31; Stacie, 27; and Shellie, 25.
