Eagle girls post 1-2 week

After opening the new year with a 68-42 conference home loss to Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa on Jan. 3, the Eagles began a busy week with three conference games in four days, finishing this week with mixed results.

Kimball

The Eagles fell into a 13-25 halftime deficit in an eventual 52-37 road loss to the Kimball Cubs on Tuesday, Jan. 7. 

In this game, the Eagles struggled shooting from the floor and at the free-throw line, shooting 29% from the floor and 25% from the charity stripe.

Brinn Kuechle led the Eagles with 12 points, including a 4 of 10 performance from three-point range.

Maple Lake

On the road, the Eagles rode a 32-15 halftime lead and strong shooting to a 65-32 win over the Maple Lake Irish on Thursday,
Jan. 9.

After experiencing shooting struggles in its prior game, the Eagles shot 49% from the floor, including a 50% (10 of 20) performance from three-point range. 

Brinn Kuechle again led the Eagles with 19 points, including a 5 of 12 performance from three-point range. Grace Brovold nearly posted a double-double performance with 10 points and eight assists. 

Addy Stommes chipped in eight points and a team-high five steals, Lily Schultz eight points, and Ava Vanderbeek a team-high 11 rebounds, along with seven points, to also pace the Eagles.

The defense also held the Irish in check, forcing 20 turnovers and holding the Irish to 25% shooting from the floor. 

Holdingford

Ending its busy week, the Eagles fell into a 34-15 halftime deficit at home to the Holdingford -Huskers. After an even second-half, this first-half deficit proved to be the difference in a 59-40 loss on Friday, Jan. 10.

The Eagles struggled shooting from the floor and at the free-throw line. Coming off a strong shooting night, including from three-point range, in its prior game, the Eagles shot 28% from the floor overall and 12.5% (1 of 8) from three-point range in the loss. The team also finished 45% from the free-throw line (15 of 33). 

Brinn Kuechle and Laura -Heuring led the Eagles with seven points each, followed by Grace Brovold with six.

After this week of action, the Eagles’ record stood at 2-12 overall and 1-5 in the Central Minnesota Conference.

Next action

After hitting the road to play Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City on Jan. 13, the Eagles return home to host New London-Spicer on Thursday, Jan. 16 and remain home to end the week, hosting Osakis on Friday, Jan. 17. The following week, the team heads on the road for a match-up with Royalton on Tuesday, Jan. 21.
