Wrestlers host 40th anniversary

Against rival EV-W Thursday, in front of a packed gym, the Cubs held their first dual meet of the season marking the 40th year of Kimball wrestling. The pre-game ceremony included some of the original 1967 wrestling team including their original head coach. The Eden Valley-Watkins Eagles were in town to wrestle the Cubs as Kimball came up on the short end of a 48-27 score. Getting things started off for the Cubs at 103 was freshman Tyler Kuechle who pinned his opponent in the second period. At 125 pounds was Travis Schiefelbein coming from behind to pin his opponent late in the second period. Following Travis was senior Ronnie Antiel who wrestled and won a close 5-4 match to pick up his first win of the season. Senior Derek Orbeck pinned his opponent in the first period at 135 pounds. This gave the Cubs a 21-9 lead but the Eagles came back to win a series of match until the heavyweight match. In the heavyweight match senior Mitch Fischer dominated the match early and getting a first period pin. The Cubs JV wrestlers were led by senior Pavel Sizikov who wrestled his first ever wrestling match winning in overtime 7-5. Pavel also won his second match 16-3. Freshman Mitch Pramann pinned his opponent in the first period. Also getting a pin was seventh-grader Travis Wills.
